It was the visitors who had the first sight of goal when Cristian Zaccardo rose to meet a corner, before planting his header into the gloves of the keeper.
Sassuolo gradually began to dominate proceedings and in the 28th minute they took the lead when Domenico Berardi drilled in a low cross from the left that was turned into the net by Sansone.
Carpi almost conjured up an equaliser minutes before half time, but Gaetano Letizia's powerful strike was kept out by Andrea Consigli.
The hosts took their lead into the break and they nearly grabbed a second within moments of the restart as Diego Falcinelli produced a clever flick from the edge of the box that had to be watched closely by Vid Belec.
In the final minute Sassuolo wasted another chance to secure the points as Gregoire Defrel headed wide of the post, but it mattered little, as the Neroverdi held on to claim the win and maintain their impressive form.
