Steven Fletcher will not be returning to international football in the near future, according to Scotland manager Craig Levein.

Craig Levein has claimed that Steven Fletcher will not be returning to the Scottish national team in the near future.

The Scotland manager previously revealed that he will not pick Fletcher after the striker sent a text message to withdraw from a squad for a game in 2011, and Levein insists that he is not prepared to change his view on the situation.

"I decided going into this campaign I wanted guys with me who 100% wanted to play for Scotland," Levein told BBC Scotland. "It had been a year that the door had been open.

"At the time I made the comparison between Steven Fletcher and Darren Fletcher, one who would do anything he could to play for his country and one who didn't bother lifting the phone."

Fletcher is close to leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers after Sunderland were given permission to speak to the 25-year-old.
