Lille defender Botman comments on alleged Wolves interest

Lille defender Sven Botman says that it was the French club's decision to reject bids for his signature during the summer transfer window.

Lille defender Sven Botman has claimed that it 'was not a bad idea' to remain with the French club for another season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers were allegedly keen to sign the Netherlands international during the closing days of the summer transfer window.

While they ultimately failed to secure a deal for the 21-year-old, it has since been suggested that the centre-back was open to a move to the Premier League.

Nevertheless, despite acknowledging that it was Lille who made the final decision, Botman has insisted that he is happy with life in Ligue 1.

Speaking to NOS about interest in his signature, Botman said: "I can't lie about that. [The decision] from the club, but I didn't think that was a bad idea in the end.

"I have a starting place and play in the Champions League, so it certainly wasn't wrong to stay. In football, sometimes things go quickly, but I believe that, in the end, everything will fall into place."

Botman still has just under four years remaining on his contract with Lille.
