AC Milan make positive start to New Year

Bojan Krkic and Giampaolo Pazzini score in the second half to lead AC Milan to a 2-1 home win against Siena in Serie A.

The Milan players, who wore anti-racism shirts before the game, dominated proceedings in the first half and could have taken the lead on at least three different occasions.

Kevin Constant came close for the Rossoneri early on, before Stephan El Shaarawy forced Gianluca Pegolo into making a good save with a shot from close range.

El Shaarawy was proving to be the key player for the home side and he created a good chance for fellow Italian Giampaolo Pazzini. However, the striker could not get on to his ball and also failed to make the most of a good cross from Antonio Cassano.

Milan were unlucky not to head into the break with the lead as El Shaarawy's right-footed curling effort skimmed the frame of the Siena goal.

El Shaarawy headed wide from close range just before the hour mark, and moments later Kevin-Prince Boateng played a good ball in a dangerous position but neither Pazzini nor Bojan Krkic could turn it home from just yards out.

Milan eventually broke the deadlock midway through the second half when Bojan headed home Boateng's cross.

The Rossoneri wrapped up the points with 10 minutes of normal time remaining, as Pazzini converted a penalty he himself earned following a challenge on him by Felipe.

Michele Paolucci halved the deficit for Siena in the 87th minute with a header from close range, but it proved to be a mere consolation in the end.
