National League Roundup: Forest Green Rovers suffer second succesive defeat

Forest Green Rovers remain top of the National League but suffer their second consecutive defeat away to Macclesfield Town.

Forest Green Rovers suffered their second consecutive defeat in the National League after losing 4-1 at Macclesfield Town.

Jon Parkin gave Rovers an early lead but Kristian Dennis levelled the match in the 15th minute.

Macclesfield were awarded a penalty when Rob Sinclair handled the ball inside the box and Dennis scored his second when he converted the spot kick. Sinclair was then sent off for a bad challenge before the break. Paul Lewis and Danny Whittaker completed the scoreline with second-half goals.

Cheltenham Town moved into the top two after a narrow 1-0 win at fellow promotion chasers Woking. Daniel Wright's strike in 67th minute was enough to secure the three points.

Wrexham are third after Connor Jennings' early goal sealed a 1-0 away win at Boreham Wood, who dropped into the bottom four.

Gateshead slipped down to fourth after they lost 2-1 at home to Welling United. A Sam Russell own goal gave Welling the lead before Xavier Vidal made it 2-0 in the 29th minute. Nathan Buddle pulled one back for Gateshead shortly after but the hosts failed to breakdown their opponents after the break.

Eastleigh remain in sixth place despite losing 1-0 at Chester following a first-half strike from Ben Heneghan while Dover and Guiseley played out a 0-0 draw.

Braintree Town moved closer to the top six after they thrashed Altrincham 4-0. Michael Cheek gave the visitors the lead in the ninth minute before Kenny Davis doubled the advantage from the penalty spot. Substitutes Anthony Edgar and Taylor Miles both scored in injury time.

Bromley came from behind to hammer Torquay United 7-3 away from home. James Hurst put the hosts in front after five minutes but Moses Ademola levelled the match three minutes later. Adeloma got his second in the 13th minute before completing his hat-trick after half an hour.

Tyrone Marsh pulled a goal back for Torquay on the stroke of half time but Jack Holland restored Bromley's two-goal lead before the hour mark.

Louis Dennis made it 5-2 before Anthony Cook added another from the spot. Ali Fuseini scored Bromley's seventh ten minutes from time before Marsh grabbed a late consolation for Torquay.

Meanwhile Aldershot Town moved up to 11th after a 3-1 at Barrow. Charlie Walker gave the visitors the lead after 32 minutes but Jason Walker made it 1-1 from the spot three minutes from the break.

Aldershot retook the lead when Walker scored his second of the game on the hour mark before Cheye Alexander doubled the lead six minutes later.

Lincoln City moved up to 12th place after they overcame bottom-of-the-table Kidderminster 2-0. First-half goals from Alan Power and Jack Muldoon secured the three points over the visitors.

Halifax Town came from two goals behind to draw at home to Southport. Michael Phenix was sent off midway through the first half but the visitors still took the lead through a Matty Brown own goal and doubled their advantage through Cole Stockton.

But Halifax fought back and were level after two late Jordan Burrow goals, including a penalty. Both sides remain in the relegation zone.
