Lionel Messi confident of Copa America success

Lionel Messi says that he wants Argentina to end their barren run in the Copa America by lifting the trophy next summer.

Argentina captain Lionel Messi has said that he is desperate for his country to win the Copa America in Chile next summer.

La Albiceleste have not claimed victory in the tournament since 1993, but Messi believes that under new manager Gerardo Martino they can end their long wait for success.

"We're preparing to win the Copa America, which Argentina have not won for so long," he is quoted as saying by the Argentinian Football Association's official website.

"Tata has his own ideas, as all coaches do. We are still adapting to the demands of a new coach."

Messi scored twice as Argentina claimed a 7-0 win over Hong Kong this afternoon.
