Diego Maradona: 'Argentina should have contacted me about vacancy'

Diego Maradona believes that Argentina were wrong not to contact him after Alejandro Sabella resigned from his role.

Diego Maradona has claimed that the Argentine Football Association should have contacted him after Alejandro Sabella left his role as manager of the national team.

Despite leading Argentina to the final of the World Cup last month, Maradona believes the team were far from impressive in Brazil, and suggests that he could have provided the answer.

"The team has no coach. I played for Argentina. If Brazil called Dunga, why didn't Argentina call me?" the 53-year-old told Ole. "Anyway, I'm happy in Dubai and I don't have to kneel before anyone.

"I don't want to be harsh on Sabella or the players but I don't think Argentina won a single game well. You can look for good passages of play but anyone who looks for a game in which we played well won't find one."

Gerardo Martino is expected to be named Sabella's replacement in the near future.
