Paul Merson: 'Arsenal should be disappointed with Champions League exit'

Paul Merson admits his surprise at Arsenal's elimination by Monaco in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Paul Merson has claimed that Arsenal should be disappointed with losing to a 'poor' Monaco team in the Champions League last 16.

The Gunners won 2-0 in the principality last night, but that did not stop them exiting the competition on away goals following a 3-3 draw on aggregate.

Merson believes that whoever draws Monaco in the quarter-finals will be expected to reach the last four.

"When you look at it now, they are not a very good team Monaco and Arsenal will be disappointed," he told Sky Sports News. "Arsenal lost it in the first leg. No disrespect to Monaco, but we can see they are not a very good team. Whoever gets them in the next round will be pleased."

Arsenal are back in Premier League action on Saturday when they make the trip to Newcastle United.
