Arsene Wenger: 'Danny Welbeck will miss start of season'

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says that Danny Welbeck will miss the start of the Premier League season due to his long-term knee injury.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that Danny Welbeck will miss the start of the Premier League season.

The 24-year-old has been struggling with a long-term knee injury, which ruled him out of the club's pre-season tour of Singapore.

Wenger has disclosed that the England international has not made sufficient progress in his recovery to be fit for the start of the campaign.

"Welbeck is not in full training yet, he has not fully recovered," the Frenchman told reporters.

"He is supposed to start to go outside and run again this weekend and from now on, if that is positive in the next three weeks he will be available.

"He will be short for the start of the season in two weeks, but three weeks should be all right."

The Gunners open their season against West Ham United on August 9.
