Hugo Lloris: 'Laurent Koscielny now one of world's best defenders'

Hugo Lloris heaps praise on 'world-class defender' Laurent Koscielny, who he claims has only continued to improve in recent times.

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has hailed Laurent Koscielny for 'going up another level' during his time at Arsenal to become one of the world's best defenders.

The 31-year-old has been a key member of the Gunners' backline since joining from Lorient six years ago, particularly shining in recent times after being named as the club's Player of the Year in 2013.

Lloris has come up against his compatriot numerous times in the North London derby, but the duo will now link up for France's latest World Cup qualification clash when facing Sweden on Friday, and the Spurs number one believes that his side will be tough to break down with Koscielny at the back.

"I think that Euro 2016 helped Koscielny go up another level. He plays with a huge amount of assertiveness in his position; he's a calm and controlled person," The Sun quotes Lloris as saying.

"He's very important in our squad. He shows every weekend with Arsenal that he's at the level of the best defenders in Europe, or even the world. He is completely fulfilled in his role as Arsenal captain but also as one of the key players for France."

Lloris will win his 85th cap for France at the Stade de France this evening, while Koscielny will appear for Les Bleus for the 41st time if selected.
