David Seaman: 'Petr Cech solves Arsenal goalkeeper problem'

Arsenal legend David Seaman suggests that the arrival of goalkeeper Petr Cech could turn the Gunners into title challengers.

Arsenal legend David Seaman has stated that the signing of Petr Cech could help the Gunners to become title challengers.

The Czech goalkeeper arrived at the Emirates Stadium from Chelsea during the summer and was immediately installed as first choice ahead of Wojciech Szczesny and David Ospina.

Seaman, who was Arsenal's number one from 1990 to 2003, has said that manager Arsene Wenger now has a goalkeeper that he can trust in the big games.

"It is a problem solved for Arsene," Seaman told PA Sport. "You have got a goalkeeper there with great quality, great experience and who commands immediate respect from the Arsenal players for what he has done in the game.

"With Cech you have just got quality. The consistency helps sustain a challenge, it helps the confidence of the defence - they know you're not going to be making mistakes and being rash in games.

"That is what you get with Petr Cech, he won't make many mistakes and he is already showing how good he is despite having a new back four in front of him."

Cech has made seven appearances so far this season.
