Robin van Persie insists that Alan Shearer's goal scoring record is not playing on his mind.

Robin van Persie has insisted that breaking Alan Shearer's record for goals scored in a calendar year is not playing on his mind.

The Arsenal striker must score a hattrick against QPR to break Shearer's haul of 36 goals.

However, the Dutchman has said that individual accolades are second to success with the team.

"I will try to break the record, but it's not first on my wish list. It comes fourth or fifth, or something," van Persie told Arsenal's official website.

"If I can score it's good, but I am not only going out on the pitch to score goals, I am going out there because I love football.

"I like to play and we want to win the game and get the three points."

Van Persie is currently the Premier League's leading goalscorer with 16 so far.
