Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that his side's lack of a prolific goalscoring performance was on the minds of his players in their 1-0 win over Newcastle United.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that his side's lack of a prolific goalscoring performance was on the minds of his players in their 1-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday.

Midfielder Mesut Ozil was the only goalscorer as the Gunners secured the victory, but Wenger's side had other chances to make the scoreline more secure.

Frenchman Wenger has admitted that goalscoring problems in recent games continued to affect his players' mentalities on Saturday.

"I would say we had plenty of chances we didn't take," the Gunners boss told the Evening Standard. "You could feel that sometimes we wanted to force a little bit the decision.

"I would have loved it to have been a bit more comfortable on the scoreline but what was really important was to get the three points. The fact that we didn't score recently from the chances we had played a little bit on our mind.

"We had a serious game, you could see we'd played three in six days. The third is a bit more difficult physically. We are an offensive team. We had plenty, plenty of chances but as long as it's 1-0 you know there comes a moment in the game where you come under a threat."

Arsenal face West Ham United on Tuesday in the EFL Cup quarter-finals before playing Liverpool at the Emirates on Friday.
