Arsene Wenger: 'Arsenal win over Leicester City is pivotal moment'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hails his side's dramatic 2-1 victory over 10-man Leicester City as a "pivotal moment" in the Premier League title race.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has acknowledged that his side's victory over Leicester City this afternoon could be a "pivotal moment" in the Premier League title race.

Danny Welbeck scored a 95th-minute winner on his first appearance of the season to complete a come-from-behind 2-1 victory for the Gunners, cutting the Foxes' lead to two points at the top of the table.

Wenger believes that his side's victory should have been more comfortable after Leicester were forced to play the majority of the second half with 10 men, but was also keen to stress that there is still a long way to go in the title race.

"The effort, energy, intensity was all good. Leicester defended very well but we had bad luck to be 1-0 down at half time. We were relentless after that - we should have scored more goals," Wenger told BBC Sport.

"Mesut Ozil was fouled in the build-up to Leicester's goal and the penalty looked very harsh. I'll have to look again but it didn't look like one. It was a pivotal moment today because the mathematics meant it could be eight points or it could be two points. That is a great change.

"There's a long way to go, we play a lot of big teams. But we had a bad spell where we couldn't win for four games and have now won two on the bounce. We have come out of that bad spell and still have a good chance."

Arsenal have now been responsible for two of Leicester's three league defeats this season.
