Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: In-form Mesut Ozil entering his "golden age"

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger tells Gunners fans that they can look forward to Mesut Ozil's 'golden years'.

Arsene Wenger has warned Arsenal's domestic and European rivals that there is plenty more to come from Mesut Ozil as the playmaker enters his "golden age".

The Germany international turned 27 last week, and Wenger believes that he is primed to enjoy a spike in performances over the coming years.

With six Premier League assists, Ozil has already set up more goals this season than he did in the whole of 2014-15, and the Gunners boss says that his stock will continue to rise.

"He is 27 now," Wenger is quoted as saying by The Mirror. "It is the golden age of a football player - 27 to 31, 32 - the age when you know your job. You realise suddenly that it is not only important to play, it is important to win as well.

"Under 25, you think you can last for ever. Once you get to 27, you realise it's time to capitalise on what you have learned and efficiency takes a little bit over the playing mood.

"His talent is fantastic. Sometimes I think he sacrifices himself for the team."

The second-placed North Londoners, who host Everton on Saturday, sit two points behind Manchester City in the Premier League table.
