Arsene Wenger: 'Picking striker has been difficult'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that it is difficult to pick between Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud for the lone striker role.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he continues to face a difficult decision when picking between Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud.

Walcott has impressed in an extended run as the lone striker for the Gunners, but Giroud came off the bench to score in wins over Watford and Bayern Munich in the past week.

As Wenger prepares for Everton to visit the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, he believes that his forwards are benefiting from the competition for places.

"Once you have two players you have to be happy and make the right decision. It's always hard. It's not only hard for Giroud and Walcott, but for every single player who you leave out," he told reporters.

"It's a difficult decision but it's part of our job as well. We are in a job where competition exists and we have to accept that.

"At the moment it is Theo but in a few weeks it might be Giroud. What is important is that both contribute."

Walcott and Giroud have combined for nine goals in all competitions this season.
