Arsene Wenger plays down Arsenal title tilt

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger refutes the notion that his side are back in the title race after thumping Aston Villa 5-0.

Arsene Wenger has rejected suggestions that Sunday's 5-0 demolition of Aston Villa saw Arsenal re-enter the Premier League title race.

Table-topping Chelsea drew 1-1 with second-placed Manchester City on Saturday as the top two invited the trailing pack to make up some ground in what looks to be a two-horse race.

The Gunners obliged as goals from five different scorers helped the Londoners move to within 11 points of the Blues, but Wenger insists that a title tilt is still a big ask.

"It's too early to say [that Arsenal can still have a say]. We are 11 points behind - that means they need to lose four games and we need to win four," he told reporters.

"I believe that we should try to be consistent and see what happens. I told you, you asked me my predictions [for the Chelsea vs. Manchester City game].

"I said a draw and I was not wrong because Chelsea had one shot on target and Manchester City three or four. It was a draw."

Olivier Giroud fired them into a 1-0 half-time lead, before Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott, Santi Cazorla and Hector Bellerin ensured a rousing second-half performance at the Emirates Stadium.
