Yaya Sanogo puts four past Benfica in Arsenal victory

Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo scores four goals during the team's 5-1 pre-season win over Benfica.

Yaya Sanogo scored four goals as Arsenal beat Benfica 5-1 in a pre-season match at the Emirates Stadium this evening.

The home side created the majority of the early chances, and broke the deadlock 25 minutes in when Aaron Ramsey made a run down the right before crossing for Sanogo.

Joel Campbell doubled the Gunners' advantage shortly before half time, volleying in at the far past from a Hector Bellerin cross.

Sanogo continued to look threatening as the break approached, and scored twice in the space of two minutes by tapping in from another Ramsey delivery, with Kieran Gibbs setting him up to complete his hat-trick.

The striker was involved again at the start of the second half, and picked up his fourth of the game when he pounced on a rebound following a strike from Santi Cazorla.

Benfica finally managed to get off the mark just after the hour mark when Nicolas Gaitan found a gap in the Arsenal box to head in from close range.

The Portuguese side continued to push for a second goal, and almost found one in the final 10 minutes when a Maxi Pereira shot came back off the post.

Arsenal also hit the woodwork in the closing stages as Ignasi Miquel tried to head home from a corner, but his delicate finish was just kept out by the crossbar.
