Granit Xhaka misses Arsenal's Premier League clash with Southampton at the Emirates, as Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira start.

Granit Xhaka is out of Arsenal's Premier League clash with Southampton at the Emirates, as Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira come into the starting lineup.

The Switzerland captain has been forced to drop out of the starting lineup due to illness, allowing Vieira to come into the midfield trident alongside Martin Odegaard and Thomas Partey.

Vieira's introduction is one of two changes that Mikel Arteta has made since the draw with West Ham United, as Kieran Tierney drops out for the fit-again Zinchenko at left-back.

William Saliba remains out with a back problem, so Rob Holding starts his fifth Premier League game on the bounce alongside Gabriel Magalhaes, while Leandro Trossard makes do with a place on the bench again.

Meanwhile, Southampton have made three changes from last week's defeat to Crystal Palace, with Romain Perraud replacing Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who cannot face his parent club.

Ruben Selles has also brought in Adam Armstrong and Mohamed Elyounoussi in place of Joe Aribo and Kamaldeen Sulemana, as Theo Walcott starts against his former club.

Arsenal: Ramsdale; White, Holding, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Partey, Odegaard, Vieira; Saka, Jesus, Martinelli
Subs: Turner, Tierney, Smith Rowe, Nketiah, Kiwior, Trossard, Jorginho, Nelson, Walters

Southampton: Bazunu; Walker-Peters, Bednarek, Bella-Kotchap, Perraud; Lavia, Ward-Prowse; Walcott, Alcaraz, Elyounoussi; A. Armstrong
Subs: McCarthy, Lyanco, Caleta-Car, Diallo, S. Armstrong, Orsic, Aribo, Sulemana, Onuachu
