David Seaman backs Arsene Wenger to spend in January

Arsenal legend David Seaman claims that Arsene Wenger will strengthen in the January transfer window if required.

Arsenal legend David Seaman has claimed that manager Arsene Wenger will strengthen in the January transfer window if he needs to.

The club's transfer policy came under fire this summer after they failed to add to the capture of Petr Cech from Chelsea, who was their only signing during the close season.

However, Seaman has told the doubters that they should trust Wenger's judgement.

"I'm sure in the January window there will be movement," the former goalkeeper told PA Sport. "If they get to January in a strong positon, I'm sure he will strengthen again.

"It is brave that he has not listened to everyone and gone and spent money but he is in the same mould as Sir Alex Ferguson - so many people think they know more than Wenger but I'm sorry, they don't. He knows the club better than anyone and knows what they need."

Arsenal sit fifth in the Premier League table after six games.
