Paul Lambert: 'Aston Villa were deserving winners'

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert insists that his team were worthy victors over Hull City after they extending their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 home win.

Paul Lambert believes that his Aston Villa side "deserved" their 2-1 victory over Hull City earlier today.

Lambert's men dominated the first half and went into the break 2-0 up thanks to goals from Gabriel Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann, and, despite a late goal from Hull's Nikica Jelavic, they held out for all three points.

Speaking after the final whistle, Lambert told BBC Sport: "After the first half we should have been out of sight. The second half we were under pressure, but the first half set the tone of the game. You are never going to dominate a game for 90 minutes, but we deserved to win the game."

The win has moved unbeaten Villa up to third in the Premier League table.
