Matt Lowton reveals that the Aston Villa squad are not happy with the way that their season has unfolded so far.

Defender Matt Lowton has insisted that his Aston Villa teammates are extremely disappointed with the way that they have begun the new Premier League season.

Paul Lambert's side are currently 17th in the Premier League table with five points from a possible 24. The last time Villa started a campaign like that, they were relegated back in 1987.

Speaking with Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Fulham in mind, Lowton was adamant that the players feel the pain that the supporters are going through.

"Everyone was hurting after the Fulham game and the whole of the dressing room was really down which is understandable," said Lowton.

"It's difficult on the Saturday night when you've been beaten. You can't enjoy it. I watched the highlights on Match Of The Day to see how I could have improved then maybe we'll look at the game again with the management team.

"We've got to get back in this week and sort it out. The gaffer will tell us where we've gone wrong and it's up to us as players to try to put it right."

The 23-year-old joined Villa from Sheffield United during the summer.
