Alex McLeish is convinced that Chris Herd should not have been sent off during Aston Villa's match with West Bromwich Albion today.

Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish has revealed that he is "baffled" by the red card that referee Phil Dowd handed to Chris Herd this afternoon.

The young Villa midfielder was given his marching orders following a collision with West Bromwich Albion's Jonas Olsson.

"I was very disappointed with the decision," McLeish told Sky Sports News. "We were baffled at the time.

"Having seen the pictures I still believe it was a harsh sending off.

"I didn't see Olsson writhing around in agony indicating that he had been stamped on. I'm sure he would have let everyone know if he had been."

West Brom won the match at Villa Park 2-1.
