Report: Aston Villa prepare improved Fabian Delph deal

Aston Villa are ready to offer England new boy Fabian Delph an improved contract in order to try to secure the long-term future of the tough-tackling midfielder.

Aston Villa are believed to be ready to offer England new boy Fabian Delph an improved contract in order to secure the long-term future of the midfielder.

The 24-year-old made his competitive international debut in the 2-0 win over Switzerland on Monday as the Three Lions began Euro 2016 qualifying with victory.

Delph is rumoured to be one of Villa's biggest earners already, with a reported £40,000-per-week pay packet, and the Midlands outfit are wary of handing out big salaries, having been unable to shift the likes of Darren Bent and Alan Hutton off the wage bill in recent years.

However, Villa's new chief executive Tom Fox, who joined the club from Arsenal this summer, is willing to make an exception in order to tie former Leeds United trainee Delph to a long-term contract.

Delph has played every minute of Villa's best Premier League ever start, helping them to seven points from their opening three games of the season.
