Aston Villa have reportedly joined Reading in the race to sign Newcastle United defender Danny Simpson.
Boss Paul Lambert is believed to be keen on adding a right-back to his squad before the start of the new season.
While his number one target has been Tottenham Hotspur's Kyle Naughton, a move for the former Sheffield United full-back has proved too difficult to secure.
That has led to the Scottish manager turning his attention to Simpson, who is currently at the centre of a contract row with Newcastle, according to The People.
The Magpies would reportedly demand £4m for the 25-year-old.
