Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone praises Argentina international Javier Mascherano for his performances at this summer's World Cup.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has praised Argentina international Javier Mascherano for his performances at the World Cup this summer.

The Barcelona midfielder has been one of the standout players in the tournament in Brazil and Simeone has paid tribute to his fellow countryman.

"Maybe he's not the captain, but leaders don't need an armband to mark their leadership. Mascherano has proved in all ways his strength and the kind of player he is," he told Ole.

Lionel Messi replaced Mascherano as the captain of the Argentine team.
