How Barcelona could line up against Alaves

Ahead of the game between Alaves and Barcelona on Tuesday night, Sports Mole looks at how Ernesto Valverde's side could line up at the Mendizorrotza Stadium.

Barcelona head into Tuesday's clash with Alaves looking to move closer to successfully defending the La Liga title.

The Catalan giants hold a nine-point advantage with five matches remaining, and victory at the Mendizorrotza Stadium could potentially put the club in a position where they could secure the top-flight crown on Saturday evening.

Barcelona head into this fixture having registered a hard-fought 2-1 triumph over Real Sociedad at the weekend.

Below, Sports Mole predicts what starting lineup could be named by Ernesto Valverde as the Barcelona boss attempts to keep players fresh ahead of next week's Champions League game with Liverpool.

BARXI VS. ALV

Out: Rafinha (knee)
Doubtful: Thomas Vermaelen (thigh)

Valverde is likely to make a number of changes for the trip to Alaves, and Lionel Messi could drop down to the bench having already completed 90 minutes on five occasions since the last international break.

Gerard Pique and Ivan Rakitic may also feature among the replacements, with Samuel Umtiti, Sergio Busquets and Philippe Coutinho all in line for recalls to the team.

Sergi Roberto could feature ahead of Nelson Semedo at right-back, while Malcom may make just his fourth La Liga start of the campaign in place of Ousmane Dembele.

Arturo Vidal may keep his place in the team, although Carles Alena will hope to be provided with another outing in the first team.

Thomas Vermaelen is a huge doubt with a thigh problem, while Rafinha remains sidelined with a knee injury.
