Preston North End manager Alex Neil says that he has sympathy for Harry Redknapp following his axe by Birmingham City.

Preston North End manager Alex Neil has said that he feels sorry for Harry Redknapp after he was sacked by Birmingham City last weekend.

The 70-year-old was let go by the Midlands side on Saturday night after picking up just four points from their first eight games of the Championship season, a run only marginally better than that of bottom-placed Bolton Wanderers.

The final nail in Redknapp's coffin came at the hands of Neil, whose side had just run out 3-1 winners at St Andrew's.

"It's not a nice feeling, to be honest," the former Norwich City manager told the Lancashire Evening Post. "Harry is an experienced manager who has achieved so much in his career. I've been there myself.

"Unfortunately that has happened quite a few times when we have played teams and guys have lost their job after. It is the nature of the game and Harry will understand that as much as anyone does.

"Obviously I feel for him, equally I could find myself in that position at some stage."

Lee Carsley has been installed as interim manager as the Blues go in search of their fourth permanent manager in the space of 10 months.
