Preview: Blackpool vs. Bristol City - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Blackpool and Bristol City, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Bristol City will look to claim a fourth consecutive victory in all competitions when they travel to Bloomfield Road to face Blackpool on Saturday.

The hosts, meanwhile, have claimed four points from their previous two Championship games, and they will attempt to clinch a third league win of the season at the weekend.

After winning his first game in his second spell as Blackpool boss, Michael Appleton oversaw a run of three matches where his side lost to Stoke City and Swansea City in the league, while they were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Barrow on penalties.

However, the Tangerines bounced back with a 1-0 away win over Queens Park Rangers before travelling to Turf Moor to face Burnley last weekend.

Goals from Josh Brownhill and Nathan Tella gave Burnley a two-goal lead, and although Theo Corbeanu pulled a goal back for Blackpool, Tella found the net once again before half time.

As the contest drifted into the final 20 minutes, Blackpool looked set to lose for the third time in the league this season, but two goals in two minutes from Shayne Lavery and Jerry Yates helped the visitors clinch a point with a 3-3 draw.

After scoring more than two goals in a match for the first time this season, Blackpool will hope that they can trouble a Bristol City defence that has conceded only three goals in their last five matches.

Meanwhile, Bristol City have bounced back after losing their opening two league games to take seven points from their last three Championship matches.

Those three league games are included in Bristol City's current five-game unbeaten run, with their last three matches all resulting in victory.

After beating Luton 2-0 to claim their first league win of the season, the Robins repeated that scoreline against Cardiff City last weekend thanks to goals from Tommy Conway and Rob Atkinson.

Nigel Pearson's side turned their attention to the EFL Cup in midweek, where they swept aside Wycombe Wanderers 3-1 after Dylan Kadji, Kane Wilson and Antoine Semenyo all found the net.

The Robins will now turn their attention to Saturday's contest as they attempt to claim their first away win of the Championship season.

Team News

Blackpool are without the services of Keshi Anderson and Luke Garbutt, who are both sidelined with injury issues, while Sonny Carey is suspended after being sent off within nine minutes of coming off the bench last weekend.

Gary Madine returned to the squad for the Burnley encounter, and although he appeared as a second-half substitute, he is expected to be on the bench for Saturday's contest, with Appleton set to name an unchanged lineup.

After the trio all found the net last Saturday, Lavery, Corbeanu and Yates will provide Blackpool's goal threat against Bristol City.

As for the visitors, Nathan Baker and Tomas Kalas will miss out due to head and knee injury issues respectively.

Pearson made a number of changes for the midweek EFL Cup meeting with Wycombe, but we think that Bristol City will revert to the starting lineup that began the game against Cardiff last weekend.

After scoring his second goal of the season against the Bluebirds, Conway will look to add to his tally when he partners Nahki Wells in the frontline.

Blackpool possible starting lineup:
Grimshaw; Lawrence-Gabriel, Williams, Ekpiteta, Thompson; Dougall, Connolly; Lavery, Bowler, Corbeanu; Yates

Bristol City possible starting lineup:
Bentley; Vyner, Naismith, Atkinson; Scott, Massengo, Williams, Dasilva; Weimann; Conway, Wells

We say: Blackpool 1-2 Bristol City

Although Blackpool have taken four points from their last two games, we think that they will lose narrowly to a Bristol City side who are aiming to claim a fourth consecutive victory.
