Borussia Dortmund captain Sebastian Kehl has been ruled out for around six weeks after suffering tendon damage to his right foot.
Kehl fell awkwardly in training on Sunday morning and immediately went for a scan on his ankle, which has come back with bad news for Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp.
The 33-year-old has sustained tissue and ligament problems and will be out until November with the problem, according to Dortmund's official website.
Dortmund are already without midfield talisman Ilkay Gundogan, who has been restricted to a single appearance this season by a back injury.
Klopp will now have to shuffle his pack for tomorrow night's Champions League opener against Napoli, with Nuri Sahin and Henrik Mkhitaryan among those hoping to start in Naples.
