Stuttgart earn rare home win

Borussia Monchengladbach missed the chance to climb into the Bundesliga's top six as they were beaten 2-0 at Stuttgart this afternoon.

Stuttgart opened the scoring courtesy of an Alvaro Dominguez own goal and then sealed the win with a well-taken Christian Gentner finish.

The breakthrough came on 28 minutes when Alexandru Maxim's inswinging free kick from the left took a couple of ricochets in the penalty area before taking a final touch off the unfortunate Dominguez.

Stuttgart doubled their lead five minutes later as Gentner beat goalkeeper Ter Stegen to a long ball over the top before finding the net with a clever lob.

The win was Stuttgart's first home victory in the Bundesliga this year.
