Brentford will attempt to end their 89-year wait for a league double over Burnley when the two sides go head-to-head at Turf Moor on Saturday.

Brentford will attempt to complete their first league double over Burnley in 89 years when the two sides face off at Turf Moor on Saturday.

The Bees are currently experiencing a poor run of form, having gone five matches without a win since beating Wolverhampton Wanderers on February 10.

Thomas Frank's side were on the verge of taking a point from last Saturday's away meeting with Arsenal, before Kai Havertz netted an 86th-minute winner to leave Brentford with nothing to show for their efforts.

Having lost 11 of their last 14 league matches, the Bees are left sitting in 15th place with five points separating them from the drop zone.

With the Brentford squad low on confidence, Saturday's contest represents a real chance to return to winning ways against a Burnley side that is languishing in 19th position.

The Bees enjoyed success in October's reverse fixture, with Yoane Wissa, Bryan Mbeumo and Saman Ghoddos all finding the net in a commanding 3-0 victory.

As a result of that dominant display, Brentford have the chance to complete a league double over the Clarets for the first time since 1934-35 when the two sides were competing in the second tier.

Brentford followed a 6-1 home win in November 1934 with a 3-0 victory in the reverse fixture as they went on to win the league title and promotion to the top flight.

If the Bees are to end their 89-year wait for a league double, they may require another strong performance from the in-form Wissa.

The forward has found the net in each of Brentford's last three matches, and he now has the opportunity to score in four consecutive Premier League games for the very first time.

The Bees are also hoping to have Mbeumo available for Saturday's contest after Frank revealed that the 24-year-old is in contention to feature at Turf Moor following a spell on the sidelines.

However, Brentford will definitely be without the services of their captain Christian Norgaard, who was forced off with an injury issue in the recent defeat to Arsenal.

Norgaard has joined a lengthy absentee list which features Josh Dasilva, Rico Henry, Ben Mee, Ethan Pinnock, Aaron Hickey and Kevin Schade.
