Chris Hughton: 'Red card harsh for Brighton & Hove Albion'

Chris Hughton says that Jamie Murphy's red card during Brighton & Hove Albion's Championship draw against Bolton Wanderers was harsh.

Chris Hughton has said that Jamie Murphy's red card during Brighton & Hove Albion's Championship draw against Bolton Wanderers was unjust.

Murphy was sent off after a foul on Neil Danns before Gary Madine scored a stoppage-time winner.

"I thought we should have had 11 men on the pitch which allows us to apply pressure higher up the park," Hughton told BBC Sport.

"I thought we were the better side, though we made it tougher for ourselves by conceding the goal we did just before half time.

"But I genuinely felt we were going to hold out. I couldn't see Bolton scoring, which makes it harder to take."

Brighton remain top of the Championship table, four points clear of second-placed Middlesbrough.
