Ben Mee, Michael Keane headers hand Burnley victory at Bristol City

Burnley beat Bristol City 2-1 at Ashton Gate following goals from defenders Ben Mee and Michael Keane.

Burnley have defeated Bristol City 2-1 at Ashton Gate following goals from defenders Ben Mee and Michael Keane.

Bristol enjoyed much of the possession in the early stages, but were unable to get a shot on target as half chances from Korey Smith and Aaron Wilbraham were blocked.

Meanwhile, Burnley's Sam Vokes seemed lively but could not connect properly with an audacious volley attempt.

The home side continued their offensive stance, however, and Jonathan Kodjia was unlucky to see his shot blocked after racing through the Burnley defence.

It was the visitors who broke the deadlock, though, when Ben Mee met the corner of David Jones to head Burnley into the lead against the run of play.

Bristol pushed for an equaliser ahead of half time, with Kodjia forcing keeper Tom Heaton into a save with a stinging shot.

Moments later, Burnley went 2-0 up as former Manchester United defender Michael Keane powered another header into the back of Ben Hamer's net.

Into the second half, chances were few and far between but Burnley debutant Andre Gray had a shot blocked on the edge of the box, while Bristol captain Wilbraham saw his own shot deflected and fizzled into the grasp of Heaton.

With 20 minutes to go, the home side rattled the post as defender Derrick Williams drove a powerful shot at the Burnley goal, and Aden Flint had a good chance but saw his effort saved by Heaton.

Bristol City finally pulled a goal back in stoppage time as Kodjia bundled the ball beyond the line, but it was no more than a consolation.
