Burnley and Blackburn Rovers played out a third straight 1-1 draw in their Lancashire derby in Saturday lunchtime's Championship kickoff.

After a toe-to-toe opening 75 minutes, Burnley took the lead when substitute Junior Stanislas made an immediate impact by rifling an unstoppable shot into the corner.

Rovers levelled eight minutes later in freak circumstances when Scott Arfield's back-pass was intercepted by Jordan Rhodes, who was credited with a goal moments later when Michael Duff's tackle ricocheted off the frontman and over Tom Heaton into the net.

A crazy final 15 minutes ended in drama when Danny Ings was about to burst free on goal and was clearly tugged back by Lee Williamson, who was sent off after coming on just 105 seconds earlier.

Was the result fair?

Probably, yes. Burnley were the better side in the first half but under the cosh for prolonged periods after the break when Blackburn changed to a more direct approach. Manager Sean Dyche will be gutted that Ings was so blatantly brought down in the dying moments, but will secretly appreciate the necessity of what Williamson did.

Burnley's performance

In the first half Burnley were impressive, pressing high not to allow Blackburn time on the ball. Despite this, keeper Heaton made the best save of the opening 45 minutes by brilliantly turning Tom Cairney's curler wide. When they did take the lead through Stanislas's stunner, it was somewhat against the run of play. They only had themselves to blame for allowing Blackburn back into it, though, and Arfield is sure to have nightmares for the next few nights about his back-pass.

Blackburn's performance

Burnley came into the match high on confidence and Blackburn were on the back foot from the off. They will have been glad when the half-time whistle came and Bowyer certainly won the battle of the more influential half-time team talk. The Rovers manager will feel that his side deserved a point and definitely won't have had a go at Williamson for getting himself sent off in selfless fashion.

Danny Ings: Stanislas's impact was brilliant but the MOM goes to Ings for his all-action performance at the front. The Clarets' number 10 has started the season on fire and was full of energy today, hassling opponents all afternoon. It was this vibrancy that probably would have seen him score a last-gasp match winner had Williamson not hauled him over.

Biggest gaffe

Clear winner here in Burnley wideman Arfield, who casually passed the ball back towards goal where Rhodes pounced before scoring perhaps the luckiest goal of his career.

Referee performance

Craig Pawson was excellent for 99% of today's match but the 1% that he did get wrong may have cost Rovers a goal. Throughout the afternoon, his use of advantage was perfect but for some reason he blew up to book Duff for a high tackle. Had he allowed play to go on, Rhodes was in on goal with a simple one-on-one chance.

Burnley: Next up for the Clarets is a visit from Birmingham City on Tuesday night.

Blackburn: Rovers, meanwhile, have another away game at Leicester City in three days' time.
