AC Chievo Verona secure Serie A safety

AC Chievo Verona claim a 1-0 win over Cagliari to ensure their own Serie A survival and relegate Catania, Bologna and Livorno.

AC Chievo Verona have claimed a 1-0 win over Cagliari to ensure their own Serie A survival and relegate Catania, Bologna and Livorno.

Nicola Murru had the first opportunity of the match for the hosts, but he could only put his header from Andrea Cossu's corner wide of the post.

In the 72nd minute Chievo made the breakthrough, as Dario Dainelli rose highest to head Luca Rigoni's corner into the back of the net.

Andrea Tabanelli was close to equalising for the hosts soon after, but his long-range free kick was tipped over by the keeper.

Chievo almost scored a second goal late on, but Alberto Paloschi could only fire his strike from close range against the post.

It proved to be the last goalscoring chance, as Chievo moved four points above the relegation zone with just one match left to play.
