Charlton Athletic stars 'will be sold'

New Charlton Athletic owner Roland Duchatelet says that the club's best players will be sold to sister club Standard Liege.

Charlton Athletic owner Roland Duchatelet has said that the clubs' best players will be sold to sister club Standard Liege in the future.

Belgian millionaire Duchatelet, 67, also owns Liege, who are on course to win the Belgian league and qualify for the Champions League.

He told BBC Late Kick Off London that Addicks fans must accept that their best players will be sold to aid Liege in Europe.

"It's not to be excluded that some players will be sold to Standard Liege and play Champions League," said Duchatelet, who completed his takeover of Charlton at the end of last year.

Although players might leave, Duchatelet's purchase has seen a number of players join the club from Belgium.

"The objective is to share the players," added Liege's sports manager Jean-Francois de Sart.

"When a player not good enough for the first team needs some experience he can go to Charlton."

Charlton are currently in the Championship's bottom three, but do have at least two games in-hand on many teams around them.

They are also still in the FA Cup and have a good chance of reaching the semi-finals as they come up against League One side Sheffield United in the last eight.
