Andre Schurrle admits failed Chelsea plan

Andre Schurrle admits that Chelsea's plan of dominating Schalke 04 did not come to fruition despite their big win.

Andre Schurrle has confessed that Chelsea did not dominate against Schalke 04 as they had planned to during their Champions League clash on Tuesday.

Despite often being on the defensive end of the match, the Blues moved to the top of Group E after a Fernando Torres brace and a goal from Eden Hazard gave them a 3-0 win against Schalke 04 at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen.

"It was definitely hard work," Schurrle told reporters. "Schalke had a lot of possession, which is not how we planned it. We wanted to dominate but we found ourselves pinned back and we had to wait for our chance to counter to turn the game.

"We did that very well and scored two goals on the counterattack in the second half. Based on the chances we created, I think we deserved the win. We aim to dictate games, so hopefully it'll be a bit different when they come to our place. The same result would be nice, but a different game.

"We've got three tough games to go and we need to collect points from each of them. We're determined to finish first in the group and we'll be doing everything we can to achieve that."

Chelsea welcome Manchester City to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Sunday.
