Chelsea defender Ashley Cole describes his team's performance during their UEFA Super Cup defeat to Atletico Madrid as an "absolute joke".

Chelsea defender Ashley Cole has branded his team's performance during their UEFA Super Cup defeat to Atletico Madrid as an "absolute joke".

The Blues were thrashed 4-1 by the Europa League champions in Monaco and Cole has apologised to the club's fans.

He tweeted: "Wellll that was a lesson, absolute joke no fight, desire, passion, and a big reality check!!!!!! #sorrycfcfans."

The last English team to win the Super Cup was Liverpool in 2005.
