Frank Lampard pleased with Chelsea's first-half display

Frank Lampard reveals that he is pleased with Chelsea's first-half display against Hull City this afternoon.

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has revealed his delight at his side's first-half performance against Hull City this afternoon.

The Blues started brightly, and although Lampard missed a penalty early on, he put them 2-0 up before the break with a long-range effort.

The 35-year-old admitted that Chelsea eased up in the second period, but insisted that it is understandable after a gruelling pre-season.

"It was very sharp from the start," Lampard told Sky Sports News. "In the first half we moved the ball quickly. If we play like that, we'll give most teams a game.

"Maybe [we slowed after the break] a little but it is early season and we have done a lot of travelling. I'm not making excuses.

"We were so bright in the first half that there is bound to be a come down in the second. We'll take the positives of the first half."

Chelsea beat Hull 2-0 in manager Jose Mourinho's first competitive game since returning to the club.
