Jose Mourinho: 'My criticism was exaggerated'

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho admits that his criticism of his players following Saturday's defeat at Newcastle United was 'exaggerated'.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has admitted that his criticism of his players after Saturday's defeat at Newcastle United was 'exaggerated'.

The Portuguese coach claimed that he made "11 mistakes" in his team selection following the 2-0 loss at St James' Park in the Premier League.

However, Mourinho insists that he will not make wholesale changes to the side for Wednesday's Champions League encounter at home to Schalke 04.

"When I said 11 changes, of course I was exaggerating," he told reporters. "I don't want to see the changes I make tomorrow is because someone is paying for the defeat to Newcastle.

"That is simply not the case. This is about seeing the characteristics of the opponent and to get the best team to try and win the game."

Fernando Torres and Ryan Bertrand have both been ruled out of the game against Schalke due to injury.
