How Chelsea could line up with Jadon Sancho

Sports Mole looks at how Chelsea could line up next season if they sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

While Borussia Dortmund have publicly stated that they will not welcome offers for Jadon Sancho, it would come as a surprise if the England international does not eventually move to the Premier League.

At one stage, Manchester United appeared to be the most likely destination, despite the winger having previously represented Manchester City's academy side.

However, with United said to be in two minds over whether to pay in the region of £100m on one player during the next transfer window, a big-money move to Chelsea is regarded as a realistic alternative option.

With that in mind, Sports Mole takes a look at how the 20-year-old could fit into the Blues starting lineup.

CHEXI with Jadon Sancho

Despite the likely departures of Willian and Pedro, Chelsea will still be well stocked for wingers, creating a scenario where Sancho may be regularly deployed on different flanks.

With Hakim Ziyech arriving from Ajax, Sancho would likely begin the campaign on the left, meaning that the likes of Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi would have to settle for a place among the replacements.

However, much would depend on the formation used by Frank Lampard. If Ziyech were given a free role in behind the main striker, that would open up the possibility of Sancho playing on the right.

Lampard has sometimes switched to a back three - tactics which would potentially lead to Sancho dropping down to the substitutes' bench.

Mason Mount and Willian have been used in closer proximity to the main striker on those occasions, likely leaving the more flexible Ziyech ahead of Sancho in the pecking order.

If Chelsea shelled out £100m for Sancho, it may lead to sales being made in other areas of the pitch. After the emergence of Billy Gilmour, Lampard may be open to cashing in on at least one of Jorginho, N'Golo Kante or Ross Barkley.

However, alterations at the back should go ahead as planned, with Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell being tipped to replace Marcos Alonso or Emerson Palmieri.
