Former Chelsea man Nicolas Anelka is in talks with Shanghai Shenhua about cancelling his contract with the club.
The ex-Blues striker joined the Chinese outfit in January but has struggled to make an impact in the country, having scored just three goals.
Anelka was joined at the club by former teammate Didier Drogba in the summer, but Shanghai say that they are in talks to end the forward's time in China.
"The discussion is between the club and himself (Anelka), I don't know about the specific details," said Shanghai spokesman Ma Yue. "But so far we haven't got the final result."
Reports are suggesting that Anelka, who has been linked with moves to Queens Park Rangers and West Ham United, is prepared to give up the last year of his contract on the condition that Shanghai will grant him a free transfer.
