Tony Cascarino says that Daniel Sturrdige's move to Liverpool will spark a spending spree at Chelsea next month.

Former Chelsea forward Tony Cascarino believes that his former club will spend big in the January transfer window.

The Blues look likely to lose striker Daniel Sturridge, who is expected to complete a £12m move to Liverpool next month.

However, Cascarino feels that his departure could lead to a spending spree at Stamford Bridge.

"Last summer they spent big and the January transfer window last year they spent a lot of money," Cascarino told talkSPORT. "The window before that they bought Fernando Torres, so they've spent big in every window, why would it be any different [this time around]?

"The year that Torres came they spent £70m, so don't be surprised if they spend £50m again because they've done it every time.

"They've jumped at the opportunity to bring in big-named players and I don't see it being any different. Now Sturridge has gone, it typifies what they've done in the past and that's spend big."

Sturridge joined Chelsea in 2009.
