Fernandinho: 'I could have joined Chelsea'

Fernandinho claims that Chelsea were keen to sign him prior to his switch to Manchester City.

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has conceded that he could have joined Chelsea during the summer transfer window.

The 28-year-old sealed his move to the Etihad Stadium from Shakhtar Donetsk in June for a fee in the region of £30m.

However, the Brazilian has revealed that City's Premier League rivals Chelsea had previously shown an interest in his services, although he was not made aware of it at the time.

"It is a complicated story. There was contact before City came in for me. Nobody told me about this in Shakhtar. I don't know what happened between Shakhtar and Chelsea," he told the Manchester Evening News.

Fernandinho has made 11 appearances in all competitions this season.
