Crystal Palace defender Damien Delaney says that his team would be competitive in the Premier League.

Crystal Palace defender Damien Delaney has insisted that the current squad of players at Selhurst Park could keep them in the Premier League.

The Eagles face Watford in the final of the Championship playoffs at Wembley next Monday afternoon, with the winner earning a place in next season's top flight.

While some have questioned the strength in depth among the clubs at the top end of the Championship, Delaney has claimed that his Palace teammates would be competitive if they played at a higher level.

"I am not saying we are going to beat the top sides but if you look from about 12th down in the Premier League, then I think we are good enough to compete in that mini-league," he told the London Evening Standard.

"Are we going to go to Manchester United or Manchester City and win? It will be pretty difficult. Would I like to go to somewhere like Sunderland? Yes, I think we would be good enough for that."

The last two winners of the playoffs, Swansea City and West Ham United, avoided immediate relegation during the next campaign.
