Paul Clement: "I've inherited a good squad"

New Derby County head coach Paul Clement believes that his squad is in good shape ahead of the 2015-16 season.

New Derby County manager Paul Clement believes that he has "inherited a good squad" as he prepares to run the rule over the Rams players in the coming weeks.

The 43-year-old was handed the reins at the iPro Stadium last week after previously serving as an assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

"A big thing for me in the next couple of weeks is to review some of the past games – the games when the team played well and games when they didn't play well, and were up against it," Clement told reporters.

"I want to see who the characters were, look through the stats and do a lot of research to make sure I have a good understanding of what we have. So there will be some due-diligence done in terms of learning about the current players.

"The club went close in the playoff final the season before last and was top for such a long period last season, and just fell away at the end. So, it is a good squad and I think we have a great chance to be successful."

Derby finished eighth in the Championship last season under previous boss Steve McClaren.
