Steve McClaren wants retrospective action against divers

Derby County boss Steve McClaren reveals that he wants to see retrospective action taken against players who dive during matches.

Derby County boss Steve McClaren has admitted that he would like to see divers punished retrospectively for their actions on the pitch.

The former England manager believes that simulation is becoming a growing problem in the game, and feels that it should be punished after the match, as officials do with matters of violent conduct.

McClaren told reporters: "Would I like to see retrospective action taken? Absolutely. If people cheat and do wrong, they have to suffer the consequences, we've all had to do that.

"It should be, they do it in other things so why not in for diving or simulation. It is a similar crime for red cards for dangerous tackles - it can cost you a game.

"All we can do is beat the drum. If the authorities see it as a problem, which it obviously is, because it keeps getting mentioned - for years now and still nothing's been done."

The Rams face Chelsea in a Capital One Cup quarter-final at the iPro Stadium this evening.
