Patrick Vieira believes that the importance of the match between England and France cannot be underestimated.

Patrick Vieira has urged France to destroy England's Euro 2012 campaign by beating them in the Group D opener next Monday.

The former Arsenal midfielder believes that a win for France would give them a big confidence boost as well as possibly end England's chance at glory.

Vieira said: "The team who lose that game are in big trouble — and I hope it's England.

"The team who wins will then have high confidence. If France beat England they will say 'We beat a big nation of football in a big tournament.

"What is really important is to build that confidence. I think for the loser it will be really difficult to bounce back."

Vieira recently claimed that the French attack will prove too strong for England.
