Everton vs. Leicester City: Head-to-head record and past meetings

Ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash between Everton and Leicester, Sports Mole looks at the head-to-head record and previous meetings between the two clubs.

Everton and Leicester City lock horns in the Premier League at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.

In a fixture between two former English champions, the two clubs have become relegation fodder in recent years, and could well be in the fight to avoid the drop again this season.

Everton have the edge in recent meetings, also dodging relegation at the expense of Leicester in 2023, just a few years after giving the Foxes a guard of honour following their title win in 2016.

Here, Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at the head-to-head record and previous meetings between the two sides.

Head-to-head record

Previous meetings: 120
Everton wins: 45
Draws: 36
Leicester wins: 39

Of all Premier League fixtures to have been played on at least 30 occasions, none have seen as many draws as Everton vs. Leicester, with 17 of the 35 meetings ending level, a percentage of 49%.

While Leicester may have won the last meeting at Goodison, wins for the Foxes have become rare in this fixture, with that being their only success in eight previous PL head-to-heads.

The Foxes have never won back-to-back league games at Goodison Park in their history, and they struggled to beat the Toffees at all during the early years of the Premier League, with just one victory in 18 meetings.

Arguably the most important fixture between the clubs came as recently as 2023 though, when both were fighting to avoid relegation, and they met on gameweek 34, with Leicester starting the day one point ahead.

Dean Smith's men led 2-1 before James Maddison had his penalty saved crucially by Jordan Pickford, with Alex Iwobi going on to equalise, and Everton would eventually clinch survival over Leicester on the final day.

One year earlier, the two met at the King Power again at a similar time in the season, with Everton mired in relegation trouble along with Burnley and Leeds United, sitting two points from safety before a ball was kicked, but a 2-1 win at Leicester courtesy of goals from Vitalii Mykolenko and Mason Holgate aided their push for survival.

There were much happier memories from this fixture for Leicester in 2016, when they lifted the Premier League trophy under Claudio Ranieri following a 3-1 win over Everton in front of a joyous King Power crowd, five days after the title was confirmed following Tottenham Hotspur's draw at Chelsea.

A win for Everton over Leicester also helped them to winning silverware, but that came almost a century ago, in the 1932-33 season, when a 3-2 win at Filbert Street got Everton's victorious FA Cup campaign up and running.

The two met in the quarter-finals of the same competition in 1968 too, with Everton again coming out on top away from home, but they were eventually beaten in the final by West Bromwich Albion.

Cup success finally came Leicester's way in the 2010s, knocking Everton out of the FA Cup in 2017, and getting the better of the Toffees on penalties at Goodison Park in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup in 2019-20, despite initially letting a 2-0 lead slip.

Prior to these modern-era meetings, this was a fixture often laden with goals, such as when Leicester completed a league double in the 1926-27 season, beating Everton 4-3 and 6-2, and winning both league meetings 5-4 in the 1929-30 campaign.

The following season, Everton thrashed Leicester 9-2 at Goodison Park, and just a few months after knocking the Foxes out of the FA Cup in 1933, the Toffees recorded a 6-3 win over Leicester.

While this fixture has produced tense battles in the cup or against relegation, back in 1953-54, they were able to celebrate together, as they both won promotion to the top flight that season, with Leicester pipping Everton to the title on goal difference, and they would go on to meet regularly in Division One for the following three decades.
